Nail-Art-A-Go-Go - Day 20 - Pop Culture

Hi guys, and welcome to day 20 of the NAGG challenge.  That means there's only 8 days left after today :(  On the upside, today's prompt is one that makes me very happy - Pop Culture!  This is always a good prompt, as you can always pick something that you really like.....

So, my mani is based on a band I discovered quite recently, Straight Line Stitch. Although I haven't been listening to them for very long, I fell in love with their sound, and their vocalist, Alexis Brown, is just awesome :D
So, that's enough gushing, on to the mani.  Since they're called Straight Line Stitch, it had to be a patchwork mani.  The colours I used were P.I.A - Shade 12, Laval - Ultra Violet, and Barry M - Guava.  The black and white were both Sinful Colors.
The patchwork nails started off as a tape mani over a white base, and I just went in with black polish afterwards, and added the stitches with a black Sharpie.  For the ring finger and thumb, I just sponged the colours very lightly in random places, leaving a bit of white showing.  I was aiming for a kind of graffiti vibe for the background.  The lettering was drawn with a Sharpie too.  I totally messed up the writing on the thumb, but I think the ring finger came out pretty well.
I think it would have came out better if I had done the outermost letters first, then the middle one, and then filled in the rest, but I guess I'll just have to remember that next time.
Apart from the thumb, I was really pleased with this mani. After all, it's based on a band I love, in colours I love, and it was matte......what more could a girl wish for :p

Now, of course I can't leave you without a couple of SLS songs, but don't forget to check out all the other pop culture masterpieces at the bottom afterwards :D  (ps. if you don't like growly vocals, skip to the last video, 'cos Alexis is a bit of a bad-ass!)

  1. I really like this. It's so different and I would never have thought about using a Sharpie before. Now that you say it, it makes so much sense! I'm a bit clumsy with a nail art brush. Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. What top coat do you use?
When I tested sharpies to use as nail art pens I had some colors disappear & others smear when I added Seche Vite.

    1. I used SV too, the black one is totally fine, but I have had some other colours kind of sink in to the base a little bit. I guess each colour is different :) xx

    2. I love how many colors they offer over nail art pens, but the hit & miss aspect keeps me from using them. Methinks I need to revisit my pen testing posts to see what pens worked again. LOL

    3. I will have to go through and test all of mine at some point too, but I am a lazy girl, so I'll probably just end up trying them in a proper mani lol :) xx
