I remembered seeing these adorable little sugar skull decals a while back on ebay, so I picked up a pack of those, planning to do a full mani with them. Bit of a cop out, I know, but I didn't want to miss the prompt completely so hopefully you'll forgive me! This is my first time trying out water decals though, and I originally did a full mani with them, but my application was, well, it was horrendous. They wouldn't sit flat, and had little edges curling up. 3 coats of top coat, and I still ended up pulling one of them off, as I kept picking at it! Beaten, but not broken, I decided to relax for the rest of the evening and have another go the next day.
That evening, I googled the Mexican flag as a back-up option should I fail again (I hated geography at school, and I only know about 4 flags in total!) The next morning, I noticed that the colouring of the sugar skulls would match pretty well with the flag, so I decided to do 2 gradient nails in those colours, and use the decals for the other 3. That way, I still had a couple of spare decals just in case. I didn't need them in the end, but I was glad I had them anyway, there was less pressure that way : D
I know it's not exactly original, but I'm pleased I'm not skipping the prompt, or posting a fail!
Those stickers are really cute :D
ReplyDeletethey are really lovely aren't they x
DeleteI love the way your sponged flags have come out!!! I did this prompt twice and considered sitting it out too...
ReplyDeleteThanks! I had to go over them quite a few times to get them fairly even, and I still smudged some green into the red when topcoating my ring finger : / I think most of the country prompts will be difficult to be honest! x
DeleteTh result is very pretty, despite the fact the water decals were behaving so badly!! I like it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think I will try water decals again, but maybe smaller ones to begin with. These were quite wide which didn't help : )
DeleteWow, great gradient!
