Colour me Crazy - Week 2: Orange

*One product in this post was discounted in exchange for review
Hiya lovelies!  I was actually hoping to get this post up yesterday, but it was about 11pm by the time I got around to it, so I decided to hang on to it until today.  So, this week is the second week of the Colour me Crazy challenge being hosted in the British Nail Bloggers group. The prompt for this week is orange, which would be a tough prompt even if I hadn't used orange in 3 mani's this month already.........

So, in the end I decided to go with something rainbow, with a good amount of orange on show.  So, I started with a white base, and freehanded some diagonal stripes of Rimmel I <3 Lasting Finish - Sunshine, Illamasqua - Gamma, Rimmel - Double Decker Red, Moyra - 87, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Brisk Blue, and Barry M - Key Lime.  Then I added top coat, and left them to dry completely.
Once they were completely dry, I applied pieces of striping tape from the top left hand corner down to the tip.  I made the gaps wider near the tip, and narrower near the cuticle, so I ended up with a sort of sun-ray pattern.  I was planning to alternate between the top left, and top right corners, but I forgot on the ring finger, so I only have the index finger going in a different direction.  That really annoyed me at first, but I followed a bit of advice from the amazing Robin Moses - if things go wrong, don't worry, just go with it.  Find a way to adapt the design to fit the mistake, don't just take it all of and start again.   That's not a word-for-word quote, but that's the gist of it..........without a doubt, the best piece of advice I've ever heard about nail art.
So, after I had painted over the tape with Sinful Colors - Black on Black, and quickly removed it, I decided to freehand some horizontal lines in black, to create this slightly curved grid design.  The top corners weren't looking too hot, so I just added some semi-circles over them.

So, this was a pretty weird mani for me - I like how it turned out in the end, but I didn't really go into it with any kind of plan, other than the rainbow stripes I used for the base. Something about going into a mani without a plan is very nerve-racking - they can go either way really. I think I got lucky this time though....

So, enough about my opinions - what about yours?  What do you think of this mani?  Also, am I the only one who's reminded of playing badminton at school by this mani?  It really reminds me of a shuttlecock for some reason.............

Don't forget to check out all the other orange mani's in the thumbnails below.  (and if you think orange is a hard colour to wear, we've got yellow next week!  I've done my mani now, but I really did struggle to think of something that wasn't sunsets or bumblebees - not that there's anything wrong with either of them, of course)
