Texture + Multichrome = ??Awesome??

Hi, me again!  Here are, as promised earlier, the results of my texture + multichrome = ??awesome?? experiment.  There are a fair few pictures for this too, so I'll put the rest after the jump like I usually do.

I decided to try it over 2 different textures; the left is a black 'sand' texture by Tribal from Born Pretty Store, and the right is one of those beaded textures by Seventeen, also in black.  I'm not a fan of this at all by itself, but it was useful to have one for this.  I used 2 coats of Birefringence over the textures when they were dry.
I like the way the 'sand' texture looks, I think it's awesome, but I'm really on the fence about the beaded one.  There's no doubt that this is the prettiest beaded texture I've ever seen, and I am kind of fascinated with how it looks, but can't really decide whether I like it or not.
What do you guys think - here's a closer shot of it to help you decide.
It kind of looks like some sort of magnificently colourful space debris landed on my nail!

  1. How clever Sarah, to me it looks like a Druzy! More so the Beaded one. I think I like the sand one better personally but they are certainly very different x

    1. aww, thank you Jade XD I could just look at the beaded photo for ages, it's so interesting, but not sure if I like it on the nail or not. I think the sand one looks cool though x

    2. It looks fab in the photo but like you i think it would be too much on my nail. I do love the sand one though,.. I am a massive fan of textured polish! I am soo jealous you have this shade!

    3. I may have to make it into a wallpaper for my phone instead then haha - I also got the holo Cygnus Loop, so may try that over a sand too :) x

  2. Interesting idea. I think the sand one looks better. I might give this a go using Barry m countess and my purpley Revlon duochrome I got from the poundshop.

    1. Thanks! I agree, the sand one is pretty cool, I'd love to see if you do try it with the Revlon :D x

    2. It didn't really work. There wasn't enough texture in the Barry m and the shift im the revlon didn't show. So I have put a matte top coat on and it looks like purple foil with bits of gold glitter shining through from the Barry M underneath.

    3. Aww, that's a shame - while it's not what you planned for, it sounds like it's still turned out very pretty :)
I used black textures to try and help the shift show, but I also find that there's a knack to seeing the shift yourself with all duochromes - you have to start with your fingers curled inwards, quite low down, with your head tilted downwards. Then slowly raise them up, moving your head as little as possible. At the end you should be peering upwards at your nails, and that's when all the hidden colours show themselves.....you might have already figured that out though, but thought I'd mention it just in case you haven't, it took me ages to :D xx

  3. I wondered about using a textured polish as a base to make anything have a texture, but I wasn't sure if it would smooth it out like topcoat does, interesting!

    1. I had no idea if it would work or not either :) I think a cream polish with a thicker formula might not though, just ones that go on in thinner coats. This probably wouldn't last too long either, but that's true for stamped textures too I guess :D x

    3. I use texture as a base a lot! I just use a make up sponge to apply it -sort of like when making a gradient but with only one color, that way the polish doesn't smooth out the texture too much. Its great for adding a shimmer, or giving a different cast to the base color! 😃

    4. I don't know if this will post twice, I think I lost the first one! Oops! Anyways, I use textured polish as a base all the time! I use a make up sponge to apply the second color though -kind of like when doing a gradient, except with one color only, that way the polish doesn't go on too thick. It works great for adding shimmer, or just changing up a base color :)

  4. I LOVE it! Of course, I am a rock hound and any time I can make it look like I have stone nails, I love it. This reminds me of those titanium coated crystals. Just plain gorgeous!

  5. You are BRILLIANT!
The beaded one looks like it could be the surface of some exotic moon!
I think I prefer the sand textured version.
Maybe I'll have to do both to be sure. LOL

  6. The rough texture looks weird up close... not so sure about that one. I like the other one though.

    1. hehe, there does seem to be a lot of mixed opinions on the beaded one - but like you and almost everyone else, I like the sand finish one though. the rough one does look very weird, but I love what it does to the multichrome effect, all the colours become really visible, and there's no doubt that the beaded texture looks better with this over the top - it's gross on it's own!
Also, thanks hun, I'm honoured :) As I'm starting a challenge on Feb 1st, I will try and get the post up today :) xx

  10. They both look amazing :) Wish I had the beaded polish to try this with! Might have to pick up the one from Seventeen at some point hah.

Also, I wanted to send you a message about your disabled right click but I don't seem to be able to find an e-mail. People can still steal your pictures if they want to by print screening, and it makes it a bit annoying to browse your blog since I can't right click to open things in a new tab :( which sucks because I love the content. Any way you would consider disabling it? x

    1. Oh, I keep forgetting to add my e-mail to the about me page - it's in the disclaimer at the minute I think, sorry about that! And thanks for reminding me :)
I know people can still take the pictures if they really want to, but more than anything, I did it in the hopes that it might discourage people, even if it won't always stop them.
I'm going to start setting it so that the links open in new tabs automatically though, so that should help when you're browsing anyway :)

It's nothing personal, at all, but I'm going to delete this comment after 2 days - so hopefully you'll see it before then. It's just that it tells people how to get around the right click if they didn't already know, and I don't really want to make it any easier for people - there's been a lot of it going around recently :( Hope you understand hun, and don't think I'm annoyed or anything :) xx
