OPI Sheer Tints & a double helping of nail art

Hi guys, sorry today's post is a little late, it took a lot longer to type than I expected it to!  I recently picked up some of the new OPI sheer tint mini's so I could have a go at the leadlight stamping technique, so today I will be sharing the results with you, as well as a bonus brushstroke/splodge mani........

So then, the leadlight technique is a fairly simple idea, stamp on a white base with a black or other dark polish, then fill in the white bits with jelly polishes and a small brush.  So, I started with Sinful - Snow me White as my base, and stamped this image from Pueen 63 with Barry M Gelly - Plum.  I should probably warn you now, I'm afraid you guys will be seeing this image again for tomorrow's Neverending Pile Challenge, although I promise you it won't look anything like this mani.  Whoops!
When the stamping was dry, I took my fine detail brush, and filled in the sections with all 4 of the colours, although I only used a little bit of yellow since I'm not that keen on yellow polish.  I went for 3 coats of each colour, apart from the yellow where I only needed 2.  I wanted the colours to be vivid rather than pastel for this mani.  You might have noticed that in the teal spirals, I painted over the purple bits too to get a more blue toned purple there.
As you can see, I had some major bubbling issues here, but that's probably my fault, as I shook them (Duh!)  Even worse, I shook them before doing the other mani too, so there's bubbles there as well.  I promise that next time, I won't shake them though, so we'll talk more about bubbling then.  Is it weird that I like the bubbles in this mani?  Probably, but I do, so there ;)
Hello thumb!  I figured I'd show you the thumb today too, since the stamping is a bit different on each nail.  Can you see where I kind of dinged it with another nail here? Yeh, that :(  Obviously, I need a bit of practise, as I had a little accident during clean up on my middle finger too!  The formula on these is pretty odd, it's kind of thick and sticky, like syrup, and personally, I found it a little tricky to work with.  I will add a bit of thinner next time I use them, and see if that helps at all.
Luckily, not one of those problems was enough to make me dislike this mani overall.  I mean, look at it, it's just so jazzy and happy.  I am going to have a go at mixing a bunch of my own tints with some cheap clear polish soon, so it will be interesting to see if application is any easier with those. I'll be sure to let you guys know either way.
So, this is the second mani I did with these sheer tints.  I used a white base again, and just painted thickish strokes of pink and purple in random places and directions.  It wasn't looking too hot at first, but after 2 coats of HK Girl it smoothed right out and I loved the result.  It's super easy to make it more blended too, just apply an all over coat of the lightest colour, although I didn't bother myself, as I didn't want it to be too subtle.
I have a few other ideas on ways to use these tints, so don't be surprised if you see another mani with these soon.  I really want to try the leadlight technique again though, so not sure what I'll do first yet.
I also had a little play around with them on some white false nails, to see what sort of colours I could make by layering them.  No doubt there's more than this though!  These are all 2 coats.
The first nail is the yellow, with the teal on the left side, and the pink on the right side.  The second nail is the pink, with the purple down the right side.  The third nail is the purple, with the pink over the left side. Fourth nail is the teal, with the purple down the left side.  Fifth nail is the purple with the teal down the left side.  The last nail is the teal, with the yellow over the right side.

So far, it's still a thumbs up for me on the Sheer Tints, although we'll see whether they're worth the price once I've mixed up my own versions for comparison.
What do you guys think of these 2 mani's then?

  3. I love both of these manis. And I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your experiments. If they work, MUA could be selling out of its £1 clear nail polish quite quickly!

    1. Thanks hun! Honestly though, you should have a go at making your own ones, I actually like my DIY versions better, they're a lot easier to work with. If you haven't already, check out my review for those versions too :D xxx

  5. Love this- and I reckon the bubbles totally go with the style of the mani too, I actually thought you'd done something super clever to get it to look that way, so it definitely works imho :)
